What Is Flexion Distraction?

Flexion Distraction is a gentle chiropractic method that is usually used on patients with neck or low back pain. These issues can be caused from bulging discs or herniations. When any portion of the spinal column is under stress, it causes problems with other areas of the body, including the arms and legs.

The goal of this treatment is to relieve the pressure on the spinal nerves and regain proper spinal motion. This method of therapy is non-surgical and can even be used on patients who have suffered injuries.

How Does the Flexion Distraction Technique Work?

This chiropractic technique is performed with the use of a special table that encourages proper spinal rotation. While the patient is lying face down on the table, the doctor will use different techniques in addition to the table's pivoting motion. The pivots of the table operate in a gentle rhythm to add relaxation and spinal movement. Both techniques together allow pressure to leave the spinal area and the discs.

Chiropractic flexion distraction therapy is well researched and has been proven to help many patients with pain associated with:

  • Arthritis

  • Sciatica

  • Scoliosis

  • Spinal stenosis

  • Lumbar disc injuries

  • Stiffness in the lower back

  • And many other issues
